Semtech Expands ULDO Regulator Power Management Product Line
Camarillo, California - December 20, 2001 Semtech Corp. (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors for communications, computers, and industrial equipment, today announced availability of the SC553 ultra-low dropout linear regulator. The adjustable SC553 features low quiescent current, low output noise, and a slim profile, making the device ideal for battery-operated portable equipment such as cellular phones and PDAs.The SC553 is pin-compatible with the industry-standard '5205 and '2982, but provides designers with several advantages over similar parts: it's PMOS pass transistor keeps supply current independent of load allowing it to consume only 75µA at 150mA and is designed to take advantage of low-cost, space-saving ceramic capacitors. The device operates from a +2.25V to +6.5V input range, making it well-suited for applications with a single Li-Ion battery, The SC553 delivers up to 150mA, and the adjust pin (ADJ) enables users to select output voltage from 1.25V to 6V for maximum flexibility. A low power (0.1µA) shutdown control pin disables the device when its function is not needed. The device also offers short circuit protection, thermal shutdown protection, and reverse battery protection. "The total solution using SC553 takes less than 0.1 square inches of board space," said Eddie Yeow, director of portable power management products for Semtech Corp. "Low power consumption and voltage selection flexibility make the SC553 an excellent choice for cellular phones, PDAs, pagers, modems, PCMCIA cards, and other battery-powered electronics." Other features of the SC553 include guaranteed 150mA output current, 5-pin SOT-23 surface mount packaging, very small external components and 3% voltage accuracy operation across the full industrial temperature range.
